Maryland State Record Falls!!!

Kyle Mullenix from Hagerstown knocked down the Maryland State Record, on March 2nd, while fishing from the banks of the Upper Potomac River.

The musky was 49″ long and weighed in at 33lbs.

The previous record was held by Tessa Coens from back on May 6, 2017.  She caught a 49″ and 32.5lb musky.

I have reached out to Kyle through Facebook in hopes of chatting more about his catch.

This musky did not survive and was sent to the taxidermist for mounting.  Biologists requested samples of the fish’s scales and cleithrum, a large bone above the gills in attempt to age the fish.  This bone will have growth rings.

According to a press release from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Mullenix was fishing with a 7 foot spinning rod and live bait.

Hagerstown resident Kyle Mullenix recently broke the state record for catching the largest muskie with this 33-pound, 49-inch-long one caught in the Upper Potomac River.
