Water temps on Kinkaid Lake are mid 60’s and the gizzard shad are just finishing up spawning on the main lake weeds. The Muskies moved out of the spawning areas and are set up to intersect the shad moving to main basin. Dissecting deep weed lines has been key to targeting larger fish. The recent cold front has them tight to the bottom and that 10ft range seems to be the magical depth. 10” Jake’s from Drifter Tackle and Chubbie’s from LLungen have been the hot crank baits. On warmer days they are chasing bucktails with some boat side action. The Johnson Creek area down to Thompson has stained water, but it’s holding a large amount of suspended Muskies. Short line trolling has been the preferable method. If your still not seeing fish, give the deep timber a run through. 22 Shorts, Tandem Nutbusters, Depthraiders and Believers are all good choices. Trees in 20-30 feet have been best.
