Guide Lines with Doug Wegner-reviews the new Daiwa ProRex Reel

New Daiwa ProRex

Daiwa has just released their newest reel the PROREX. This past year I was fortunate enough to get my hands on this new product. This is the first reel specifically built for Musky fishing unlike other reels that are crossed over from salt water. My favorite feature is Daiwa’s T-Wing system. This unique line guide allows an oversized air way for your line to travel on the cast reducing friction and increasing casting distance. Once the reel is engaged the T-Wing folds back and guides your line onto your spool. They have been using this technology in their bass reels for years prior. When I was fishing this reel in November and December last year ice was constantly building up on rod guides and your level wind. The T-Wings large opening allows for more ice bulid up with less down time. In November on Mille Lacs this past year my boat partner was using a Tranx 500 and was chipping and blowing on his level wind every 8-10 casts as I continued to fish with no freeze up issues thanks to the T-Wing. The Prorex also has a newer low profile stance that will fit any anglers hand with ease. The large EVA handle is very easy to find and makes fishing all day very conferrable. This handle also allows you to extend the handle 10mm for more torque and leverage when throwing large baits. The Prorex is offered in 5.3, 7.1, and 8.1 gear ratio’s covering all your needs for any presentation. Daiwa engineers knocked this new reel out of the park! Not to mention Daiwa also released a matching rods including 7’6’’ H and telescoping in 8’6’’ MH & H along with a 9’5’’XH option. These products will be available to your local dealers in April!
