Guide Lines from Brian Clark: Lake Chautauqua
Consistently inconsistent has been this years theme on Chautauqua lake. In the 4 days leading to the opener (May 29), water temps dropped 8-10 degrees with miserably cold rainy days. Water is crystal clear, weeds are super thick and my prime spots are LOADED with big fish. Getting them to actually eat lures has been the issue about half of the days out. Days with 25+ follows and 1-2 bites are followed by days with 6-7 bites and zero follows. We’ve netted some really nice fish and have seen our fair share of giants.
Things are starting to balance out as water temps have reached the low 70’s. Fishing the last 2 days has picked up, and with rain and clouds in the forecast… I see this hot bite continuing.
