Since the Northern Wisconsin Musky Opener last week, we have experienced weather ranging from near freezing to the mid-90s. Currently, musky spawning activity has concluded on all/majority of our area lakes and many lakes are already in the upper 60 and low to mid 70° range, which is ahead of schedule for this time of year. Weed growth varies by lake, but with the sunny, flat calm weather of the  previous week it has taken off like wildfire. Many lakes resemble conditions closer to pre summer peak than one week into the Season. Across the board, fish have been moving, however, windows have tightened as temperatures have escalated and the weather has stabilized. A windy day today helped mix a lot of the water column and provided some good action. Big fish have been on the move in the area since the Opener and we have been fortunate enough to put a few nice ones in the boat including some first muskies and personal bests. Bait selection has been widely varied and everything from small blades, jerk baits, small top water, dive rise, gliders and rubber have produced action. Phantoms, Suicks, SRJ, Marvin’s, Lil Bastards, Showgirls, Mepps Marabou have been the best producers with a few fish biting on Lake X B2s, mid medussas and regular bull Dawgs as well. As the fish adjust to the warm water and the weed growth continues to boom, look for some big windows to open with the arrival of the next weather makers.
